Following its triumphant world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024, My Melbourne, a one-of-a-kind anthology directed by four of India's most celebrated filmmakers - Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan, Rima Das, and Onir - will have its India premiere at the prestigious Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) 2024. The film will premiere in the coveted "Gala Section" on October 22nd, with all four filmmakers present. Mitu Bhowmick Lange co-produced My Melbourne with VicScreen and Screen Australia.
Tumblr media
My Melbourne features four diverse voices, each interpreting personal and universal experiences of identity and belonging through the eyes of people from various backgrounds living in Australia. This one-of-a-kind cinematic project is the outcome of IFFM and Film Victoria's collaborative campaign to promote cross-cultural storytelling, in which young Melbourne filmmakers collaborated with these renowned directors to create a collection of thought-provoking narratives. The shorts include "Emma" by Rima Das, "Jules" directed by Imtiaz Ali, "Nandini" by Onir, and "Setara" by Kabir Khan. The films address various issues of variety, such as gender, race, sexuality, and disability. The project's goal was to be really inclusive and offer experiences that anyone could understand.
Regarding the approaching MAMI debut, Imtiaz Ali of his segment Jules stated, "It's a privilege to bring My Melbourne to Indian audiences at MAMI. The stories we've recounted are not only about the diaspora, but about anyone who has ever felt displaced or wished to belong. 'Jules' is a highly personal film for me, and I can't wait for the Mumbai audience to see it.
Setara director Kabir Khan said, "Melbourne provided us with the perfect backdrop to explore the emotional complexities of our characters." It was a fantastic experience working with new talent, and our Melbourne crew's enthusiasm transferred brilliantly on screen. I am overjoyed that My Melbourne will now have its India premiere at such a prestigious platform as MAMI. And I am really honored to present my film 'Setara'.
Rima Das, the mastermind behind the Emma part, remarked, "What makes My Melbourne unique is the sincerity of the stories." Each part is a sincere examination of human connections against the backdrop of Melbourne's cultural variety. I am excited to present my film 'Emma' at MAMI, where such narratives are highly valued."
Onir, who directed Nandini, expressed his delight, adding, "Nadini is about breaking emotional and physical barriers and telling human stories that resonate across geographies." It has been a wonderful partnership with budding filmmakers from Melbourne, and I am forward to see how Indian audiences respond to it at MAMI."
Mitu Bhowmick Lange, the film's producer and the proprietor of Mind Blowing Films, stated, "We are incredibly happy with the huge reception to My Melbourne at IFFM. The partnership of Indian filmmakers with Melbourne's rising talents has resulted in an anthology that appeals to a worldwide audience. We are thrilled to showcase this film to MAMI, a festival dedicated to varied storytelling and vibrant, inclusive audience involvement."
The India premiere promises to be a star-studded affair, honouring not only the film but also the unusual collaboration between the Indian and Australian film industries. My Melbourne will be shown in the Gala Section of MAMI 2024 on October 22, marking a crucial milestone in this cross-continental cinematic odyssey.

Lion (2016, Garth Davis)
20/11/2023
Lion is a 2016 film directed by Garth Davis.
Based on the memoir A Long Way Home, the film tells the true story of Saroo Brierley who is played by Dev Patel. The cast also includes Rooney Mara, David Wenham and Nicole Kidman. The film had its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, taking 2nd place in the Audience Award.
Khandwa, central India, 1986 - Saroo, five years old, second son of a very poor family, who survives with his older brother Guddu by collecting waste metals, asks the other to be able to work at night in a station near their home village. In search of his brother, the child mistakenly boards a deserted train that leaves and does not stop, taking him to Calcutta, about 1600 kilometers away.
Lost in the chaotic metropolis, not speaking the local Bengali language, Saroo survives on the streets. Hosted by people of ill repute, he manages to escape, only to be noticed by a young employee who speaks his Hindi language and who takes him to a police station so that, by publishing his photo in the newspapers, someone can recognize him. Saroo leaves for Hobart in Tasmania, where he grows up and becomes an adult.
At the age of 27, Saroo is a university student in Melbourne, with numerous Indian friends and loved ones, but he has not forgotten his roots and his family, for which he feels a sense of guilt due to his disappearance. At his girlfriend's insistence, the young man begins researching through Google Earth, desperately searching for his home village based on his fading memories, until he recognizes from a satellite image what appears to be the starting station.
Filming began in January 2015 in Calcutta, India, and continued in mid-April, in Australia, in the cities of Melbourne and Hobart.
The film had its world premiere on 10 September 2016 at the Toronto International Film Festival and subsequently at the London Film Festival and the Rome Film Festival. "Berlin" on ZEE5 Global – A Spy Thriller That's Turning Heads
Tumblr media
Berlin is about to drop on ZEE5 Global! This isn’t just any spy thriller—it’s the kind of edge-of-your-seat drama that’ll have you questioning everyone’s loyalty, including your own dog. With its upcoming release, the series has already set the global film festival circuit on fire, racking up critical acclaim faster than you can say "Espionage in New Delhi." Let’s dive into why "Berlin" should be on your radar, especially if you’re a sucker for all things spy, suspense, and, of course, ZEE5 Global. A Star-Studded Affair Picture this: The icy winters of 1990s Delhi, where secrets are colder than the weather, and the stakes are higher than your monthly rent. Berlin takes us on a wild ride through the world of espionage, where nothing is as it seems. This isn’t just your average spy series; it’s a masterclass in suspense. Directed by the brilliant Atul Sabharwal, who clearly knows a thing or two about keeping audiences hooked, the series stars some of the finest talents in the industry. Aparshakti Khurana steps out of his comfort zone to play a sign language expert, diving deep into a role that’s as intense as it is unusual. You’ve seen him make you laugh, but here, he’s here to make you sweat. Ishwak Singh, who’s been on everyone’s radar lately, plays a deaf-mute man accused of being a foreign spy. Talk about a challenge! And then there’s Rahul Bose, whose intelligence officer character is battling more than just external threats—he’s fighting the demons within his own agency. Throw in Anupriya Goenka, whose agent character is as enigmatic as they come, and you’ve got a cast that’s ready to keep you guessing till the very last episode. The Backstory That Matters Set in the politically charged atmosphere of 1990s Delhi, Berlin paints a vivid picture of the era. We’re talking about a time when landlines were still a thing, and you actually had to wait to develop your film (look it up, Gen Z). The series doesn’t just use the era as a backdrop; it dives into it, making the setting as much a character as the people in it. You can almost feel the tension in the air, smell the cold, and hear the conspiracies brewing in every shadowy alley. Before you even get your popcorn ready, Berlin has already proven its worth. The series has made the rounds at some of the most prestigious film festivals, including the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, MAMI Mumbai, and the London Indian Film Festival. It even picked up an award at the Asian World Film Festival for Outstanding Cinematic Achievement. So yeah, it’s safe to say the critics are into it. But the real question is, are you ready for what Berlin has to offer? ZEE5 Global: The Place to Be This isn’t just another series; it’s a ZEE5 Global exclusive, meaning you can only catch it on the world’s largest streaming platform for South Asian content. ZEE5 Global has been on a roll lately, offering a diverse slate of content that’s as rich as your Aunt’s secret stash of Diwali sweets. Berlin fits right into their lineup of premium, world-class entertainment, bringing a fresh perspective to the espionage genre. With ZEE5 Global’s extensive reach across 190 countries, Berlin is set to become a global sensation. Archana Anand, Chief Business Officer at ZEE5 Global, summed it up best when she said, “Berlin is more than just a spy thriller—it’s a cultural deep dive into a time and place that’s often overlooked in mainstream media. We’re thrilled to bring this unique story to our global audience.” And when someone like Anand is thrilled, you know it’s going to be good. Get Ready to Be Hooked Berlin is more than just a series; it’s an experience. With its stellar cast, gripping storyline, and the kind of suspense that’ll have you glued to your screen, this series is set to redefine the spy genre on ZEE5 Global. So, mark your calendars, grab your snacks, and get ready to enter the world of Berlin—a world where nothing is what it seems, and everyone has something to hide. So there you have it—a sneak peek into Berlin, the series that’s about to shake up the world of spy thrillers on ZEE5 Global. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the genre or just looking for something new to binge, Berlin promises to deliver. Now, go ahead and stream it on ZEE5 Global—you know you want to. Nora Fatehi compared Bollywood to a high school clique, stating, "If you don't show yourself...
Nora Fatehi, well-known for her dancing and acting ability, is also known for her open demeanor. She recently commented on her experiences in Bollywood, comparing the industry to a high school clique. She did, however, acknowledge that her previous experiences had made it easier for her to manage this atmosphere. Furthermore, she stated that foreign actors who struggle in the industry frequently do so because they do not learn Hindi or other local languages.
During the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the actress spoke candidly with film critic and writer Rajeev Masand about her journey in the Hindi cinema industry and the hardships she faced along the way.
Tumblr media
Nora Fatehi, who was born and reared in Canada and spent several years in Saudi Arabia, reflected on her high school experiences in various countries, where she observed kids who had created exclusive cliques that were hostile to newcomers.
Drawing on her awareness of that relationship, she finds Bollywood to be comparable and feels as if she is revisiting that milieu by entering the industry. However, she used her experience to maneuver her way through the film industry.
She stated, "It's (Bollywood) a little bit worse than high school because most of these cliques grew up together from the start." But once you've done it, it seems like you can do it again. Because you're an outsider, there's no way in unless you show yourself, learn Hindi, assimilate, and demonstrate to them that, "Hey, I can be like you guys." The Madgaon Express actress added that she does not blame Bollywood, describing it as a firm where success demands knowledge and experience. While her other models went out to clubs, she focused on studying the industry and creating graphs to critique it. Through her investigation, the Bharat actor discovered that newcomers who struggle to retain their fame frequently fade after a year or so. She went on: "That's also when I understood one thing: if a foreigner came into Bollywood and they didn't make it, most of the time it's because they didn't learn the language (Hindi) or didn't assimilate." Nora explained that some international actors try to stress their American or Canadian identity, hoping that others will recognize it. However, their language abilities and accent frequently indicate their position as outsiders, which may add to their lack of success in the industry.
